HOW YOU CAN HELP
Get involved!
Volunteer
There are several easy ways to volunteer in the
NOLA100
Lower Ninth Ward Village - Our Base! (http://thelower9thwardvillage.org/Home_Page.html)

Accommodations
Camp Hope in Violet, LA is our favorite place to
live the true volunteer experience. Meet and mingle with likeminded
souls who have literally come from all over to help the New Orleans
area recover.
Located in the former school this air-conditioned
facility offers dorm style accommodations using bunk beds and housing
approximately 16 per room. There are community showers, a computer room
and a conference room as well as basketball courts and a picnic area.
While definitely more Spartan than a hotel in the CBD or French
Quarter, there is something magical about meeting other volunteers and
the fantastic AmeriCorps members who help run the camp. There is also
something magical about the price, which is $150 per person per week,
and that includes 3 meals a day!
Camp Hope, located in St. Bernard Parish, is
approximately 15 miles from the NOLA100 Base. Camp Hope is a wonderful
project of the New Orleans Habitat for Humanity Affiliate, Click here

Adopt a Family
Help a Family- Many of the NOLA100 participants are elderly and on a
fixed income. Even with the generous support from our partners, the
Salvation Army and the Clinton Foundation, many homeowners still have
gaps of $5,000-$15,000 to fully recover and replace furnishings lost in
the storm.
Although a substantial sum, this is an amount that
is within reach of traditional fundraising programs. By raising money
with bake sales, pancake breakfasts, steak dinners, Fun Runs, special
offertories, etc., you can give these residents the gift of a new home
and furnishings with no mortgage or credit card debt to worry about.
There are many opportunities available, with a few listed below. Send
us an email and tell us your interest we will be happy to provide you a
profile of a deserving family, and progress reports and photos when you
adopt!

Green me, baby!
What if you could help the environment and practically double an
elder’s disposable income? Who wouldn’t do that,
right? Here’s your chance- many of the homes that the NOLA100
will be working on used 250% more energy than the average home built in
the last 5-10 years. Where that is a tragedy for the environment, it is
a catastrophe for someone on a fixed income of less than $1000 per
month.
Take the case of Janice J., a grandmother caring
for 3 grandchildren on a fixed income of $800 per month. Living in the
family’s home that was built in the 30’s with no
balloon frame construction and insulation, her average utility bill was
nearly $400/mo! Half her income was going to heating and cooling her
house.
NOLA100 was able to make the energy upgrades
necessary to cut her projected energy bill in half. But others may not
be so lucky without your help. Since there is a fixed budget for all
projects, some homes will fall short of implementation of all the
needed efficiency upgrades. For as little as $125, you can change that.
Take a look at ways to make an unbelievable impact
in someone’s life-
